Power Up Your Pressure Washer: Mastering the Art of Downstreaming for Ultimate Cleaning Power!

Updated: May 19, 2023

Downstreaming is a technique used in pressure washing to apply cleaning chemicals or detergents to a surface through the pressure washer's downstream injector. This technique is often used for cleaning outdoor surfaces, such as siding, decks, and fences. Here are some steps on how to go downstream:

  1. Prepare the cleaning solution: Mix the cleaning solution or detergent according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use a solution specifically designed for pressure washing and safe for your cleaning surface.

  2. Connect the downstream injector: Turn off the pressure washer and remove the high-pressure nozzle. Ensure the injector is facing downstream, towards the direction of the water flow. Attach the downstream injector to the pressure washer wand and secure it.

  3. Insert the chemical siphon tube: Place the chemical siphon tube into the cleaning solution or detergent container. Make sure the end of the line is submerged in the solution.

  4. Turn on the pressure washer: Turn on the pressure washer and adjust the pressure and flow rate as needed. The downstream injector will automatically draw the cleaning solution into the water stream, diluting it as it flows.

  5. Apply the cleaning solution: Hold the wand at a distance of 6-8 inches from the surface you are cleaning and apply the cleaning solution in a sweeping motion. Make sure to cover the entire surface evenly. Let the cleaning solution sit on the surface for the recommended time according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  6. Rinse the surface: After the cleaning solution has had time to work, switch the nozzle to the high-pressure nozzle and rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water. Start at the top of the character and work your way down using a sweeping motion. Make sure to rinse off all of the cleaning solutions.

  7. Disconnect the downstream injector: Turn off the pressure washer and disconnect the downstream injector. Remove the chemical siphon tube from the cleaning solution container and rinse it with clean water.

In summary, to go downstream, you must prepare the cleaning solution, connect the downstream injector, insert the chemical siphon tube, turn on the pressure washer, apply the cleaning solution, rinse the surface, and disconnect the downstream injector. Following these steps, you can effectively clean outdoor surfaces with a pressure washer and cleaning solution.
